Didge Down Under at Cool Kids !!

At the final Cool Kids’ in Sagawa Park for the 2011 season, we had a real treat. It was ‘Didgeridoo Down Under’ with Lindsey Dank. It was a fantastic way to end the year. I have to admit that I only folded two cranes because I had to be right near the stage to catch any trick or technique to play my own Didge.

Mr. Dank shared wisdom and music from the Native Australians and combined an educational experience with loads of fun. It was easy to forget how much information Lindsey was sharing because his ‘top shelf’ level of skill with both his instruments and the material kept the audience glued to him for the whole hour.

Participants played the role of a kangaroo on a journey around the outback seeking fresh water to drink. They encountered kookaburras and elephants but stayed clear of the dingo that were following. He showed us how easy it was to recycle materials into instruments (like his Didge made from old blue jeans). The lessons included how the Didgeridoos were made from termite-hollowed out eucalyptus tree branches, as well as respecting the environment and each other.

The highlight was when Lindsey the ‘Didgeri-Dood’ broke out bags of instruments to share and even had Didgeridoos for ALL the Cool Kids. He taught everyone how to play the Didge, and how to play along with him as a group. It was one of my all-time favorite shows. If you’d like more information about the programs that are available, just visit the ‘Didgeridoo Revolution’ Web Site http://www.didgrevolution.com/ or follow them on FaceBook.

Intentional Act of Kindness . . .

It was going to be a hot, humid and rainy day on Friday, so Woody and I took a ride to another coffee shop that's inside a book store. (Both of which do NOT like to be named, so I'll do what I can to avoid mentioning where we were at the Mall in Greece, NY.) It was a pleasant change of scenery, but we had to take our own 'locally made' scone and cookie because the price of admission is quite high.

After making our choice of beverages, and getting settled in at the tables nearest an electrical outlet, we got right into our 'dueling laptops'. With  my headphones  on, lost in a widget-wonder-quest, I barely heard snippets of the conversation Woody was having with an elderly gentleman. Gaining a whole new level of love and respect for my friend Woody (Rick Nicholson), after he said to the obviously distressed man, "Do you need a hug? (pause) I'll give you a hug!" Woody stood up and wrapped his big loving arms around the rotund man . . . a tear fell from my eye as I watched him share a powerful dose of love to a complete stranger.

Now this wasn't a typical 'man-hug' where the two quickly touch shoulders, slap the back twice, and then separate . . . this was a full embrace that is rarely seen today in our culture. (A thought-gathering pause here...)

This Intentional Act of Kindness had a powerful and immediately visible effect on that man, the room and our world . . . a tremendous moment to witness . . . and now the LOVE has been passed on to YOU ! ! !

More Listening With Shadow !!

Here are Two More Shows for You . . .

10/31/37 - The Three Ghosts:

Well, after downloading the Free Real Player, I am now able to listen to the rest of the Shadow Shows on this disk. What a pain in the backside. As I listen to this show, nothing worth writing 'popped' into my gray matter. So, I guess when it's not so black and white, being in-the-gray matters . . . or your gray matter, matters. Does that sound gray to you ?!

11/28/37 – Circle of Death:

This show is about a terrorist bomber that uses the press to get attention before and after each explosion. In a meeting of city officials and other concerned citizens it is stated that a mad maniac is terrorizing the community, and that police are insufficient at stopping any further attacks.

As I listen to these old-time radio shows, I find that they are, in some ways, very similar to the problems we face today. The difference in this one seems to be that the bomber is not a suicide killer, but the damage is still the same. The fear and panic are the same; people are no longer able to live their lives as they did before the attacks. I feel that this is what the terrorists want, to spread fear and doubt throughout society and the physical effects of the attacks are secondary.

This particular person has become a terrorist because he doesn’t like crowds. He doesn’t respect the rights of others to be in the same public places he wants to be. This causes me to believe, in my hopeful heart, that many people are extremely shallow. This terrorist is strongly against the very things (good and bad) that have caused society to grow and prosper.

Through thousands of years of trial-and-error we, as a people, have come up with rules, methods, and mannerisms that allow us to co-exist. It is because of each other that we have grown into the modern society we all share. Through the needs of all people, as individuals and as groups, we have created the life we live. Everyone has a right to be here, and to have his or her opinion. Everyone has the right to experiment with the many different paths available in this life.

As long as you don’t stand in someone’s Sun Light, or infringe on his or her rights, the path taken is yours to choose and experience. If we did not allow others to be different, our existence would slow down to a crawl. New developments in all facets of our live would stop. Learning, for the good of others, would stagnate. We 'need' each other far more than we are willing to admit sometimes. It is long over due that people wake up to the wonderful smell of the coffee.

Politics . . .

This is NOT going to be a Political Blog . . . although, like most Americans, I have an opinion and I know that I'm right. *smiles* The ONLY thing I will say about Politics is that, "One side thinks the other is Evil and the second side thinks the other is Stupid . . . but neither wants to admit to being stupid !?"

Listening With the Shadow . . .

I tried this once before and lost the data in a brutal system crash. So, here we are again with “Listening With the Shadow”. I play these fantastic Old Time Radio Shows and write whatever pops into my head. It's great fun for me to make comparisons about today, or comment on our future, while listening to shows from before my time . . . Enjoy ! !

9/26/37 - Death House Rescue (Very 1st Show):

The Shadow seems to look out for people that are used and abused by others. In this episode, two men have pinned their crime on an innocent man who is then sentenced to death. I am amazed that when criminals act they're usually doing so much damage to a victim that it often casts them into a situation worse than the criminal's.

The people that are honest and work hard for the things they have gained should be honored and protected by our great society.  As I listen to these shows, I find that the common theme is that most people of criminal intent often work harder at getting other people’s things than they would if they found a job of their own. As the show concludes we hear the narrator state, “The weeds of crime bare bitter fruit … crime does not pay."

10/24/37 - The Temple Bells of Neban:

The Temple Bells will reveal the identity of the Shadow. It is comical that the writers of this new show are claiming that this could be the end of his career as the Shadow. A dancer from India will perform, “The Dance of the Cobra.” She says that it is good to know a small prayer for when you meet someone who could destroy you. The suspense is as thick as fog.

Is it really the EGO that is the cause for many of the problems we face as humans? Why do people stroll into a public place, and stomp their feet as they walk through? Walking as loudly as they can without recognizing that they are certainly not the only people around. Lately, I find that the more I use the method of saying in my mind, “I Wish You Happiness!” to calm myself when others bother me, the more I notice how rude and mindless other people seem to be. The more I work on my own peace and serenity, the more I see other people doing the opposite.

I know that people are all on the same path together. That we are all 'spirit' that have been allowed to reside in a physical body until we can learn enough to return to our maker. But, and this is a huge but, why do so few people recognize this fact? Why are people so rude toward each other? Why does it bother me so much when people are rude ?! Am I being tested? Should I accept their rudeness or point it out to them? Should I be rude back and point out the truths of their way?

Don’t answer . . . I know the correct way. *smiles*  It is not my job to inform them of their way. My job is to stop being judgmental and wish them happiness. They are not ready to know what they are doing, or they are just being negative without knowing it. In either case it's mindlessness that causes people to be so rude. Mindlessness is simply an ego without a path.

The Shadow’s identity is not revealed, but it was certainly a close call . . . and the question now becomes, “Was this luck, skill or divine intervention that kept his secret intact?” More Soon . . .

After a Dinner of Bubba's Favorite . . .

"Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it." ~ Pvt. Benjamin Buford 'Bubba' Blue ~ in "Forrest Gump"
