Book: "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success" by Deepak Chopra

A Practical Guide To the Fulfillment of Your Dreams

This is, in my humble opinion, one of Chopra's premier books on personal growth and achievement. It was published in 1994, long before the success of that best-selling book about the Law of Attraction. Many writers have attempted to edify readers with secrets on how the ‘laws’ that govern the energies of the universe (cause & effect, relativity, vibration, rhythm, and polarity) can be used to gain personal success and happiness. But this book put it into a Spiritual Context that most people can easily relate to.

Deepak Chopra's, "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success" has specific spiritual context that shatters the commonly held belief that if one person gains another must lose, and goes way beyond just living in harmony with natural laws. We can now learn to foster a ‘Wealth Consciousness’ that is conducive for abundance, in all of its forms, to flow toward us. This tremendous little book contains a powerful message of hope, and an easy way for anyone to get involved with its vision.

You don’t have to sit back on the sidelines of the game-of-life and watch it all continue getting worse. Those seeking truth, success and happiness for ALL people must begin to 'see' our selves, and each other, as spiritual beings of love. The world’s problems will never be fixed by physical means like war, violent striking, monetary policy, and executive orders. So, until there is enough people seeking spiritual solutions (a critical mass to tip the scales), things will not change and our anxiety will only grow.

A quote from this great book:

“The coming civilization of the New Humanity will recognize, and then
emphasize, that all people are already united by the fact that they are
all equally the expression of one life. No one action can be really fruitful
unless it is in complete harmony with this truth. The future of humanity
is in the hands of those who see this vision.”   ~  Meher Baba

Am I recommending this book? Yes, of course . . . I wouldn’t have posted unless I thought it would make a difference !!! My one follower and three readers can look forward (I would hope) to similar posts about the books that have touched me, or you can jump ahead and read them for yourself. Some of them are on the Ferris-Wheel-of-Books spinning on the right, between my Blog Archive and the Blog List.

The Dady Brothers in Brockport ! !

We were blessed on Wednesday evening as 'The Dady Brothers’ came to town to play at the Recreation Center. I met John and Joe Dady back in the early 80s and they were well known all those years ago. Now, after thirty-six years of playing together and over six thousand performances these two artists put on a show that’s pointed directly at the audience.

It’s a wonderful mix of Irish Folk tunes, Blue Grass, and recognizable favorites. You might think, with so many years and shows, that it may get a bit repetitious or stale for the Dady’s. But each show is tailored specifically for the audience of the day, and last night they made it perfectly clear that it’s the people who come to listen that make this all work and lots of fun ! !

The casual conversation John and Joe had with each other and the audience made us all feel warm and welcome. The songs they picked easily fit the venue and they sang as if they were in your living room jamming just for you. It was impressive how they remembered people from previous shows by name and mentioned their dancing friends ‘The Band of Brothers’.

One of the highlights was when they called out a newlywed couple for a dance in front. Then they found the one couple in the room married the longest (67yrs for a powerful contrast) and wished them all many more happy years together. That kind of ‘connection’ to the audience cannot be learned or manufactured just for a show. It is obvious to me why the Dady Brothers have been successful for so many years. They absolutely love giving all they have and it comes from the heart.

After all that, you’ll probably notice that they are fantastic artists who sing with great style and the harmonies are top shelf. Watching them playing with so many different instruments is almost as much fun as listening to their tunes.

Plus, if that weren’t enough, they just got back a few weeks ago from their 21st Annual Musical and Cultural Tour of Ireland. You can join them next year for this once-in-a-lifetime experience (June 5th to the 15th, 2012), “From Shannon to Dublin with the Dady Brothers Ireland Tour”.

If you’re not already a fan of the Dady Brothers, you should be ! ! ! Don’t take my word for it . . . go watch and listen to them play for yourself. The schedule is on their Web Site where you can also buy one of their CDs . . . Today.

Still More . . . With the Shadow ! !

I play these fantastic Old Time Radio Shows and write whatever pops into my head. It's great fun for me to make comparisons about today, or comment on our future, while listening to shows from before my time . . . Enjoy ! !

1/16/38 – Sabotage:

Explosion and Fire in the Shipyard . . . foul play is expected !! You have to try and understand the mentality of the country in the mid-1930s. World War 1 ended nearly twenty years earlier and the build-up to the next World War was growing. The Shadow Radio Shows were just what Americans needed for entertainment and comfort. They wanted a Hero and Protector . . . someone that looked out for the vulnerable and the oppressed. The Shadow fulfilled those needs and desires for thirty short minutes each week.

During times of war, or terrorism, people’s emotions are easily preyed upon which can result in mass hysteria and paranoia. Do you remember how quickly the many conspiracy stories spread right after Nine-Eleven? There was everything from tales that the planes were remote controlled by ‘pods’ seen under the wings, to the towers being intentionally brought down by our own government, or that the Pentagon was attacked by missiles and not a plane crash.

First it was the Russians that did it, and then maybe it was the Chinese. When we finally found out that nineteen Saudi Arabian men were responsible, we chose to chase Al Qaeda around the globe. Talks of internment camps opening again in America began spreading and the Internet was ablaze with heated words. Do you remember how absolutely freaking crazy those first few weeks were?

I would like to remind you all how it felt only ONE Day after those attacks, before we knew why or who did it, and all the theories spread. It was on Nine Twelve, just ONE Day after the tragedy; when Three Airplanes were hijacked, Two Towers fell, and One Nation rose up from the smoldering ashes like a Phoenix being reborn !! We were one nation, one people, and one heart . . . Nothing else mattered  . . . How could we ever forget?

Forget not the tragedy, but remember more how it felt to be Free of the Petty Little Differences that we held against each other, our neighbors, or in the workplace. It made the fighting between political parties seem worthless … rivalries between the West coast and East coast … my dog’s better than your dog … who pays taxes … and the borders between the states, cities, counties, towns and villages now insignificant . . . WE WERE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER and we had real compassion for one another. How could we ever go back to our old ways ?!

You all know that we are not only back to the old ways, back to the trivial little games being played, but it seems like we are now totally split right down the middle. We’ve been divided and the conquering will soon follow. Things that are important don’t get discussed and then worked out; we’re spending all our time arguing over the less important but highly emotional issues. (The perfect example is the current Debt Ceiling Debate . . . while the Country spends itself into oblivion!) What are we doing to ourselves?

Maybe we can get back to, or at least start to use, the Golden Rule (that every culture, society and religion that ever was had some form of) and really love your neighbor as if they were yourself ??! Any suggestions as to how we all might get back to that Nine Twelve Mentality and Heart . . . without facing another horrible tragedy ?!!

  Enough said . . . for now ! !

Walking in Beauty . . .

One of many reasons I enjoy and am ‘called’ to play drums is because my heart beats a strong rhythm that calls out to others. When I play my drum I am able to send physical and spiritual love vibrations into the world, and this loving message calls people to ‘Gather in Peace’. The most powerful way to share this rhythm-of-my-heart with others is within a Healing Drum Circle. Group Drumming can change the state of your mind and body, and lift your outlook on life and living. I find joy from this process . . . and with all my time left here on earth, I will share this joy with as many people as possible.

When we share a positive mental state based on giving love, the waves and rhythm it produces draws people to us. Some of those people are like-minded seekers of truth and beauty. While others are curious as to why they are attracted to your silent way. They may not understand why they are attracted, but they follow the call either way. A third group is the leaners and complainers, and although they may be attracted to us for reasons that benefit no one, they still deserve our love. All three groups are seeking this love, even if they chose not to accept it, and it is our responsibility to share love with everyone !!

The Ancestors called this profound state-of-being, “Walking in Beauty”. Remaining positive as you walk down the path of life and spreading joy wherever you step. Knowing this and accomplishing it is a difficult road to follow in today’s modern time. (Today I won’t be comparing the stresses of today vs. yesterday!) One of the methods you can use to stay on this chosen trail is to seek out the natural wonders of the world around you. Take the time to become centered in your ‘Now’ and recognize its beauty. As my friend and mentor Dave Markham said, in a recent Video Commentary on his Blog, “Love for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part”.

Heal your ‘self’ and then give to others, lift them up as you have been lifted. Simply put, “To share beauty you must change your view of the world to one of gratitude.” When you are blessed, you must become a blessing. Take the rhythm of your heart and spread the love . . .

Seeking Beauty,
Jah

Quoting for the Gray Matter ! !

"One of the fundamental things that we know about our Universe is that everything in it is vibrating, is in motion, and has rhythm. Every molecule, every atom is dancing its own unique dance, singing its signature song. In the beginning there was noise, and noise begat rhythm, and rhythm begat everything else. This is a kind of cosmology that a drummer can live with. Spirit Drumming is like an organic compulsion to translate the emotional fact of being alive into sound, into rhythm and into something you can dance to. This excitement we feel, when we hear it, tells us that the door into other realms is opening." ~ Mickey Hart

“Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls.”
~ Joseph Campbell

"Music is nothing less than the picture of our Beloved, and our Beloved is that which is our source and our goal.  If we could only listen to the voice of all the beauty that attracts us in any form, we would find that in every aspect it tells us that behind all manifestation is the perfect Spirit, the spirit of wisdom. Music inspires the soul and is the language of beauty." ~ Sufi Inayat Kahn

"We are all pioneers, but very few of us have taken the time or seized the opportunity to see for ourselves what lies just beyond or just behind the familiar world.  After all, life is not about being a marketplace conquistador who has misinterpreted the meaning of abundance and is willing to sacrifice others for commercial gain, any more than it is about running off to the mountains and shaking rattles, beating drums and imitating Indians." ~ Eric Jendresen

12/12/37 – The Death Triangle:

While sitting in Ye Old Java Junction, I paused this Shadow show to listen to the Thursday night open-mic entertainment. There was one young local girl who absolutely blew everyone away with her powerful voice . . . it was a real tears-of-joy moment. I think this was the first time people actually sat quietly and listened to the music !?

NOTE:  Java no longer has Open Mic Nights ;-/

It is nice to hear that Margo Lane was so ‘concerned’ about Lamont’s welfare. She did everything possible to find out why he was not around for a day. When Margo does find him she is relieved, but uncertain about his actions. Usually the Shadow is very forthcoming with Margo. Does that mean Lamont Cranston is really the Shadow?  Oh, I’ll never tell . . .

Is there really ever any ‘honor’ among thieves? Although they may have their code it seems to me that, if given the chance, any one in a group of thieves will squeal their way to freedom when the heat gets too close. They often work very hard at crime, knowing their lives will be worth 'nada' if they squeal, and freedom is the one commodity that can’t be bartered.

The Shadow plays the team against itself, and in their zeal to remain free ends up spilling-the-beans about each other. Three men, together in crime, spent more time worrying about each other than to ever wonder how (or why) the Shadow was putting the pieces together that solved their crimes.

1/09/38 - League of Terror:

“Hm hm hm hm hm hm . . . the Shadow knows! Hm hm hm hm ha ha ha ha ha ha!”

You just gotta love those 1930s radio commercials that were ‘priming’ Americans for their consuming binge of the next seventy-plus years.

- -  ->

A storekeeper, testifying in court about counterfeiters, commits perjury to protect his family from threats he has received from the criminals that are on trial. His motive was to protect his family, but he’s sentenced to one year in jail because his testimony changed since the initial deposition. Sounds like a perfect type of victim for the Shadow to protect, the poor who cannot defend themselves from the cruel people of the world.

“You know what happens to people who know too much?” That’s a perfect way for the Shadow to get to the Big Boss. Let's pretend that the jailed storekeeper’s daughter knows too much about the counterfeiters and they’ll take her to the Boss while the Shadow follows. The Shadow will prove once again that Crime Does Not Pay !!

During this episode not much ‘popped’ into my head worth writing about . . . some shows are like that !? They are entertaining but don’t relate well to the current issues of the day.

Didge Down Under at Cool Kids !!

At the final Cool Kids’ in Sagawa Park for the 2011 season, we had a real treat. It was ‘Didgeridoo Down Under’ with Lindsey Dank. It was a fantastic way to end the year. I have to admit that I only folded two cranes because I had to be right near the stage to catch any trick or technique to play my own Didge.

Mr. Dank shared wisdom and music from the Native Australians and combined an educational experience with loads of fun. It was easy to forget how much information Lindsey was sharing because his ‘top shelf’ level of skill with both his instruments and the material kept the audience glued to him for the whole hour.

Participants played the role of a kangaroo on a journey around the outback seeking fresh water to drink. They encountered kookaburras and elephants but stayed clear of the dingo that were following. He showed us how easy it was to recycle materials into instruments (like his Didge made from old blue jeans). The lessons included how the Didgeridoos were made from termite-hollowed out eucalyptus tree branches, as well as respecting the environment and each other.

The highlight was when Lindsey the ‘Didgeri-Dood’ broke out bags of instruments to share and even had Didgeridoos for ALL the Cool Kids. He taught everyone how to play the Didge, and how to play along with him as a group. It was one of my all-time favorite shows. If you’d like more information about the programs that are available, just visit the ‘Didgeridoo Revolution’ Web Site http://www.didgrevolution.com/ or follow them on FaceBook.

Intentional Act of Kindness . . .

It was going to be a hot, humid and rainy day on Friday, so Woody and I took a ride to another coffee shop that's inside a book store. (Both of which do NOT like to be named, so I'll do what I can to avoid mentioning where we were at the Mall in Greece, NY.) It was a pleasant change of scenery, but we had to take our own 'locally made' scone and cookie because the price of admission is quite high.

After making our choice of beverages, and getting settled in at the tables nearest an electrical outlet, we got right into our 'dueling laptops'. With  my headphones  on, lost in a widget-wonder-quest, I barely heard snippets of the conversation Woody was having with an elderly gentleman. Gaining a whole new level of love and respect for my friend Woody (Rick Nicholson), after he said to the obviously distressed man, "Do you need a hug? (pause) I'll give you a hug!" Woody stood up and wrapped his big loving arms around the rotund man . . . a tear fell from my eye as I watched him share a powerful dose of love to a complete stranger.

Now this wasn't a typical 'man-hug' where the two quickly touch shoulders, slap the back twice, and then separate . . . this was a full embrace that is rarely seen today in our culture. (A thought-gathering pause here...)

This Intentional Act of Kindness had a powerful and immediately visible effect on that man, the room and our world . . . a tremendous moment to witness . . . and now the LOVE has been passed on to YOU ! ! !
